Frequently asked questions

What is a commissioned artwork?

An artwork created for you based on your choice of subject, colour scheme and approach.

What determines the price of artwork?

Size, materials and time. Styles that take longer to create may cost more.

Shipping and packaging

Shipping costs depend on destination, size and weight. You will receive a detailed quote for approval before work begins.

Approximate South African door-to-door shipping is R300–R700, with packaging estimated at R100–R300.

Local shipping

The artwork is safely packaged in a box and ready to display on arrival.

International shipping

Your painting is rolled and packaged in a tube. A professional framer will need to restretch or frame it. Unroll and store it above 15 °C (59 °F), and keep it flat until framing.

Unframed artwork and canvas depth

Artwork is supplied unframed on stretched canvas. For local buyers who prefer to display it unframed, the canvas is 45–50 mm deep and the painting continues around the edges. If you plan to frame the work, a thinner stretcher is used.

Testimonials

“We are lucky enough to have worked with Pen on a few different paintings now, the last two being particularly personal to us (a landscape of our favourite view of Joburg, and a portrait of my late horse). Penny really listened and understood what we were looking for and as a result we have paintings which are not only beautiful, but which really mean something to us.”

“Penelope Hunter creates some of the most dynamic and energetic depictions of Joburg skylines. Her professionalism, detailing and colorful usage of layering stokes and techniques, make her pieces a must for any collection. It has been our pleasure working with her on two pieces. We are thrilled to have her work on display in our home.”
    Nel Ayeni, Atlanta, U.S.A
“We absolutely love our painting of Joburg, in our new home in Atlanta GA, USA. It’s one of the first pieces people see and rave about when they come in the home.”

“I live in the United States and have purchased many of Penelope's paintings. I purchased some while visiting South Africa in 2008 and the majority after returning home. Her art breathes life into my home. Not only does her art take me back to South Africa it compels me to give resources to ensure that these amazing animals are forever protected.”

“As I knew nothing about ‘art’ and had never bought a painting before, I was a little apprehensive before contacting Penny but I had absolutely nothing to worry about. I gave an outline of the kind of painting that I wanted and then Penny brought it to life, making helpful suggestions along the way. Penny is personable and professional, she’s great to work with and her enthusiasm and passion for her work clearly comes across in all her communications.”
    John Freer, Leeds, U.K.
